What is RSS? RSS (which stands for "Really Simple Syndication") is a notification system used to alert subscribers to changes made to their favorite web sites. Think of it as a news delivery service from your favorite web sites.
Many news-related sites, blogs, and other sites now offer their content as an RSS feed. An RSS feed is a text-based headline with a link, and usually a short summary, that is sent to you as soon as your favorite site is updated. The feed will also include a link to the website - should you be interested in details of the article/news.
Why should I use RSS? RSS can be a major convenience if you regularly use the web. It allows you to stay informed by retrieving the latest content from your favorite web sites. Furthermore, you have total control over the content you receive.
Let's say you are monitoring our current CD rates. Instead of constantly checking our web site, you'll receive an update, via RSS, the instant that CD rates are updated on the Proponent site.
What do I need to use RSS? To obtain a customized feed from the Proponent web site, you'll need to use an RSS Feed Reader. A feed reader, or news aggregator, is an application that's always searching your favorite web sites for updates. Feed readers are free and are offered through Google, Yahoo!, AOL and Bloglines - just click on the links to the right of this page.
